20,000 tonnes of the waste we send to landfills annually doesn't belong there.

Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, Charlottetown.

In cities all across the country Canadians are diverting millions of tons of waste from our landfills through city wide compost collection programs. Kelowna residents and community members are already an ecologically minded community; we boast the largest farmers market in all of British Columbia, pride ourselves on our agricultural roots and continued traditions and, in 2015, we are now striving towards ecologically sustainable housing with the approval of the Central Green development.

It is obvious that we care about our environment.

What is less obvious is why we continue to send thousands of tons of food waste into our landfills, despite the resounding success of composting programs across Canada. As a community it is time to step up, and demand that we develop a more responsible way of managing our waste.

By changing the way we despose of our waste we can change our city. Help Kelowna move towards sustainability by learning about curbside compost collection and joining the movement today.
